Hawaii Police Release Suspect in Hilo Stabbing Murder

HILO – Big Island police have released the only announced suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Hilo man.

The victim, 38-year old Lloyd Rubio, was discovered by South Hilo patrol officers Monday in response to a 5:19 a.m. call. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:11 a.m.

Thirty seven year old Cherie Sueko Moskwa of Hilo was arrested the same day on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the killing.

Moskwa was released from police custody Wednesday evening (January 9), pending further investigation.

Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted on Tuesday showed that Rubio died from a stab wound to the abdomen with an injury to the aorta. The medical examiner ruled the death as a homicide. Detectives are awaiting additional toxicological findings.
