The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for exposed north and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui.
A strong low pressure system in the western north pacific has generated a large northwest swell that will reach the state tonight. The swell will produce large and dangerous surf along exposed reefs and beaches tonight through much of next week.
Surf is expected at 15 to 20 feet; west Oahu can expect 10 to 15 feet.
The surf will build on Kauai beginning around midight, then spread to the remaining islands into Sunday morning, becoming largest in the afternoon and holding through Monday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
