Hilo detectives say a man posing as a ‘modeling agent’ may have intended to take two women out of state, and possibly out of the country. Now police are warning of an organized, “unscrupulous and potentially dangerous” online effort to lure young women on the Big Island into a life of prostitution.
According to police, two young local women responded to an online advertisement for “prospective models” on the Big Island. A man posing as a ‘modeling agent’ invited the women to Oahu, where he photographed them for a few days. When the man invited them to fly out-of-state, one of the women became suspicious and notified the Honolulu Police Department.
Police intercepted two suspects as they checked out of their hotel. The Honolulu Police Department is investigating the incident.
Big Island police have advised the public to be cautious about online advertisements seeking prospective models.
